So…we’ve covered the things that make me feel incredibly chic (pt 1 and 2 here), now let’s get into the habits that make feel chic. While my days are filled with chic things, my world on socials is surrounded by chic people and visuals, the habits in my life, like most of us, aren’t the absolute chicest. I myself have to make conscious efforts sometimes to be a functioning member of society, let alone be someone who people consider chic.
However, just like my running list of the things or objects that make me feel chic, I noticed myself creating a mental list when I did an action that made me feel chic- whether it was implicit or not. These are the habits that make my day a little brighter, and make me feel at times, more like an adult simply put.
Let me know if any of these resonate! Curious to hear your actions that make you feel chic too..

Changing my scent by city - just did this in NYC. Not only do you associate that scent with a place but in NYC for example I wore a muskier scent that made me feel more powerful, grungy, more of a NYC vibe. In LA, for example I wear lighter routine scents I’m used to. I love traveling with the Salt and Stone set and Sidia solid travel perfume.
Bringing my own slippers with me to a hotel and wearing them- my absolute favorite are the Jenni Kayne ones, especially during winter months…so warm and cozy.
Throwing out my old underwear every few years and buying myself a new set (usually my holiday gift to myself and usually a set of Hanky Panky’s).
Straitening my hair with a good old straightener - lately I have been obsessed with the T3 one!
Taking two minutes to condition my cuticles at the end of the day - I have tried all the cuticle oils and C.O. Bigelow is the best.
Going bare nails
Side parting my hair
Wearing my hair super slicked back - out of all the fancy hair gels on the market, this $8 L’Oreal one works best. Trust me.
Brushing my hair before bed - I love my Crown Affair brush for a good scalp massage
Speaking to strangers - I saw a man popping Valentine’s Day balloons in NY in the trunk of his car and I rolled down the window to ask if I could have one. He was genuinely so nice and gave us two heart balloons and it made my night. I especially love speaking to strangers in New York…you never know who you’ll meet.
Not putting my purse on the floor - most cultures think its the biggest no-no to put your bag on the floor. Americans however routinely do it and I cringe every time I see it.
Embracing my natural hair (@crownaffair really helps…love their mousse here)
Wearing a scarf the old fashioned way, not like a shawl, with the loop through.
Using a scalp massager in bed before I go to sleep
Icing my face in the morning - my favorite is this Amazon one
Lint rolling myself - especially while traveling, bringing my lint roller with me was a game changer and made me feel so chic every time I walked out the door.
Indulging in a full steak dinner and martini (my favorite is the Odeon)
Affording myself little luxuries I’d otherwise never afford myself - like getting ice cream in the middle of the day or buying myself a little elevated something like a nice razor versus my usual CVS one.
Sleeping with a seashell under my pillow- maybe its a Pisces thing?

Michal, Tech Boss, 28: “I usually rush around when I get dressed so anytime I can actually plan my jewelry or watch with my outfit I feel super chic rather than just throwing it on.”
Erin Kleinberg, Founder, 35: “I always think having a notepad and a chic pen is chefs kiss, but one thing I really love (and this is so tech nerd of me) is my Remarkable… It’s essentially an electronic notepad that you can write on and then transfer the notes to text and send to your email… but the chic thing about it aside for a bit sleek design, is that it allows me to spend some time at night with my thoughts mapping things out, without the gross light that emits from my phone and computer. No text or anything bothering me just me myself in the pen. I just think the ultimate luxury is not having all of that noise coming at you, and opening up the ability to really dream!”
The not putting your bag on the floor thing is so true! I’m from India and it’s a huge no to do that but I see it happen in London a lot !
Cuticle oil is so underrated
